I'm not even close to being educated about vocalists but I was AMAZED he was able to sing adter not drinking anything for 2 and a half days. I cannot even SPEAK if my throat is dry

Around a year ago i was scrolling through disney+ with my kiddo (5 at the time) and she picked The Lion King (original). A few days later she watched the remake with mommy while i was at work. Later i asked what she wanted to watch and she said "Lion king. The real one" so i internally groaned and started the remake when she said "Daddy! I said the real one!" Sometimes you wonder if you're raising your kids right, and sometimes you get conformation that you are.

I watched this movie recently on Freeform and my biggest issue with it is that Mulan (2020) is just boring if you ignore ll the cultural controversies surrounding this film. Like it looks and feels like a generic war movie set in East Asia that could have been produced by any random studio just looking to make their own adaption of Fa Mulan, not Disney as it’s lacking that Disney charm we all love. All the characters are boring and just downright forgettable, there’s no humor like the original movie had, and as a girl well this sure as hell doesn’t feel empowering at all like the first movie did when I was little. Plus back to this being a live action war movie and who the target audience for this was supposed to be, little girls. I’m not speaking for all of you, but I’m pretty sure most kiddos wouldn’t want to be sitting in a theater for 2 hours watching live action war films

You forgot how they undermined their heroine by replacing Shan Yu with a woman as well. It is almost as stupid as as the movie adaptation of "School of Good and Evil", where the protagonist repetedly points at herself and she insists she doesn’t belong a if it was oviosly visable. I had to actually look it up in wikipedia to understand what the character was trying to point out, because in the movie they changed the main characters appearance into a ridiculously pretty black version of Katniss Everdeen. The entire point was that she was not suposed to be as beautiful as the other girls. It's as if they beautified the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Interesting video, thank you. For what its worth, as someone that just listens to music for fun I really like the sound track and listen to this quite a lot. On a good sound system cranked I love it! I watched your entire video and actually learned quite a lot, I appreciate the time and knowledge here for sure. One thing, seeing the movie first and then just a couple days ago at the St. Louis Muny (Amazing show!) really brings out the differences. I was able to follow the story from the Movie better than a live performance but you are 100% correct about the singing quality. I did not know how bad it was!!

OMG.... Watching this in 2024 and the 'United Empire of America' is really not funny anymore. scary.....

When I heard that the movie would be a WWI period piece, I was like "how are they gonna make a distorted electric cello theme work over that without it being incongruent?" My thoughts about the musical challenge the composers would have weren't as sophisticated as yours, but I remember also feeling like they had their work cut out for them.

You know, your point was proven just as I was watching this. To me, Captain Marvel brought to mind Back to the Future, for whatever reason. And as you were talking about the Fanfare of the common man, Star Trek Voyager was brought to mind. The Timpani starting and the single solo line, then the Timpani again, then the rest of the theme. Just interesting to see how people hear things differently

Different medium and they tried something different. Was it great, of course not, but they were not trying to recreate the theatre experience. I enjoyed it for what it was. The bad and dangerous choices are certainly bad; but... I certainly was able to follow the dialogues. About the only thing I agree with is the day long takes.

It feels like they should have just made a movie and not a musical. Jackman is a great actor and a great singer but asking him to do both at the same time with full emotionality of on screen acting is just cruel

What's puzzling is how in the midst of this era, they're managed to create original (or at least disney-fied for the first time) stories with original music, and managed to be HUGELY successful. There's literally no reason for remake #465 when "Let It Go" or "Almost There" exists.

Am I boring or just constantly skeptical/disinterested… as knowingly or unknowingly enjoying the trailer music for an upcoming movie, wouldn’t get me to potentially be more interested to go see it. I’ll just go download the song. Whether the actual footage interested me determines if I’ll bother seeing it or not.

Just goes to show how soulless and creativity devoid Disney truly is. Despite their finances, enterprises, franchises, and legacies, they constantly clearly never bother or intentionally choose to not put funds into studying beforehand to establish an entire comprehension of related past and lore. Why wouldn’t they see value in providing a product that honours history, respects its fans, and doesn’t betray or contradict/destroy any prior established themes/characters/world building/etc.

That’s total BS that such a ridiculous idiocies is the structured system of operation. Sound and music are similar departments within the same related industry. Keeping them separated is fucking ridiculous. And must only be the results of the overheads or the directors wanting to retain control and overriding power and decision, over what they both separately create.

I mean, people weren't on board with street fighter 3 new gen/2nd impact/3rd strike going the hip-hop route with its art style and particularly its music because it was so far removed from street fighter at the time, but then after some time passed people warmed up to it and now not only do fans love it, they consider it epitimous to street fighter as a whole: hip-hop. Same thing with J-pop and shonen-esque music with SF4, people HATED it at first, but now they can't help but love it. I guess the takeaway with that I people got to understand foreign sounding music and warm up to it over time for them to be fully won over
